Year 10 Challenge Club and Year 11 prefects had a very interesting experience learning about parliament this week from a member of the House of Lords. Earl Attlee visited ALNS to talk about his role and the structure of the House of Lords as part of the governments’ ‘Peers in Schools’ outreach programme. Students learned from the outset that any one of them could aspire to becoming a future ‘Lord’, helping to make laws and challenge political decisions. Earl Attlee gave us all a real insight into the workings of the House of Lords as well as the nature of his own role and some of its challenges. He was extremely open and approachable towards the students, inspiring them to ask some challenging questions and giving them a number of thought provoking answers.
