The cast of ‘Legally Blonde’ showcased two numbers at the Portsmouth Guildhall on Wednesday 15th March as part of ‘Soundsational’, an event produced by Portsmouth Music Hub, bringing together local secondary schools, sixth form colleges and academies.
There was a wide range of acts on offer at the event including rock bands, soloists, singing groups and school musical numbers. The concert concluded with a huge Massed Choir performance of three songs: ‘When I grow up’ from Matilda, ‘Say Something’ and Toto’s ‘Africa’.
The cast were fantastic performing the two songs from Legally Blonde. In ‘Whipped into Shape’ Charlotte Coqueral gave an outstanding performance as ‘Brooke Shields’, (the wrongly accused aerobics instructor) wowing the audience with her fantastic routine! Quasim Abdul played ‘Callahan’ (the arrogant lawyer), singing with conviction and a real sense of style and character. The chorus/dancers amazed the audience with their energetic dance routine (including skipping ropes). The catchy number ‘Bend and Snap’ was sung with an all-American feel, an impressive cheerleader lift and another energetic dance routine for our ‘Delta Nu’ girls. Olivia Osbourne (the sassy stylist, Kiki) and Laura Spurgeon (Paulette) both gave excellent solo performances with great style and attitude.
The event was extremely enjoyable – a great opportunity for our students to work with other schools across the city and see inspiring performances from the sixth form colleges. Our thanks to both the Portsmouth Music Hub and the Guildhall for providing such a professional experience for the students.
