The Stock Market Challenge

Year 9 students took part in the Stock Market Challenge on Friday, where they worked as a team of 4 each with different roles. There was the Finance Manager; Investment Analyst, Media Analyst and Floor Trader. The teams had to work together buying and selling stocks and shares from the Stock Market. They had to use information from different media sources including daily newspaper articles and “live” news reports presented on screen that affected the trading of the different companies involved. The aim of each team was to have made the most profit from their original £15000 investment.

The atmosphere in the hall mimicked that of the actual stock market, there was a buzz and excitement throughout the room as the value of the stocks and shares rose and fell.

The year 9s really excelled in their team work throughout the whole day and enjoyed the chance to see how Maths works in the real world!
