On Wednesday 3rd October we had our second personal development day of the year. Personal Development Days are an opportunity for our students to undertake a range of different activities exploring different issues and learning styles.
Year 7 either went to the Weald and Downland Museum or undertook their CAT tests followed by an afternoon of team building. The trip to a real living museum gives the opportunity for students to explore real hands on history, they were lucky with the weather this year and had a fantastic day. The Year 7s in school took their tests and then had the opportunity to work together, explore their teamwork and leadership skills and have fun!
The Year 8 students all got their own passports for the day and undertook a day called “Passport to the World” they moved around the school into different experiences in different “countries”. They had the opportunity to sing and dance, learn about food and get creative with design.
The Stock Market Challenge took place for Year 9 in the main hall. This was a really exciting day that enabled our Year 9s to practically apply Maths and learn how the stock market works. The atmosphere and engagement in the hall was amazing as the Maths department and their student volunteers transformed it into a real stock market.
Africa Day was the Year 10 opportunity. Students had the opportunity to learn African Dance, African Art and Design, they learnt all about poverty in Africa as well as the more positive aspects and the beauty of this amazing continent.
Year 11 worked in their option groups for the day which allows them to explore their chosen subjects in real depth for the day. Art students were lucky enough to work with a professional artist for the day and others got to spend time developing projects and embedding their subject knowledge.
Broadside students had a day exploring a range of STEM activities including building bridges from spaghetti and how to use balloons to power cars!
The atmosphere around the school was amazing as always. Our Personal Development Days give such varied opportunities for students we all look forward to the next one.
