End of Term Letter from the Headteacher

17th December 2018

Dear Parents

As we reach the end of 2018, I reflect back on another superb term and wanted to write to you to express my continued joy in working with our wonderful students here at Admiral Lord Nelson School. Their achievements across all areas of school life have been excellent again this year and I look forward with excitement to presenting many awards to acknowledge the hard work and determination of the top performers in each House at our Christmas Celebration Assemblies on Friday 21st December.  Friday will be the usual festive fun day, culminating in our legendary annual Staff Review, after which we wish all students a very happy Christmas and send them off early to start their holidays at 2.00pm.

On Thursday 20th December at 7.00pm, we will be holding our Performing Arts Evening.  Parents and students are warmly invited to join us to see a showcase of Drama, Dance and Music performances in the school hall, tickets cost £2.00 and are payable on the door.

As always, I would like to thank you as parents for the tremendous way that you work in partnership with the school, supporting your child’s education and enabling them to be successful at ALNS.  It is very much appreciated by all our hardworking and dedicated staff who know that all success is built upon this strong partnership.

All the many highlights of the term are recorded in our school  ‘Latitude’ (the latest edition is expected to be released this week), in the news section on our website and on social media (ALNS Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) so you can keep up with all the exciting activities that your children do here, both in lessons as well as outside them.  We are very pleased that so many of you continue to regularly check your child’s progress and achievements through INSIGHT and make use of Show My Homework to support your children with their Independent Learning assignments.

This term we say goodbye to the following members of staff who are leaving us to move on to their chosen futures:

  • Martin Pleace – Premises
  • Chris Fry – Premises
  • Heather Freathy – Performance
  • Ramona Masora – Teaching Assistant
  • Alice Tripp – Science
  • Kelly Way– Performance

On behalf of all of the staff, students and Governors of the school, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for their service to the school and wish them the very best of luck as they embark on the next stages of their professional and personal lives.

As we look to continually improve our communication with parents please do contact us if you have ideas as to how we can share information with you more effectively.  We now send very few communications by paper, so can I ask you to contact the school as a matter of urgency if you have not received email contact from us this term so that we can update our records with your accurate email address.

Students return to school on Monday 7th January 2019 for what promises to be another action-packed year of learning at ALNS!

On behalf of all of the staff and Governors at ALNS, I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Yours sincerely
