Emma Beeson – ALNS Leaver 2009

My name is Emma Beeson, I’m 26 and left ALNS in 2009.

I am currently a Prison Officer, a role which I have carried out for over four years. I specialise in hostage negotiation and Violence Reduction. I have been nominated for Prison Officer of the Year (a national achievement) and I am also starring in a prison programme that is due to air at the end of April/start of May 2019.

My aspirations are to eventually set up a company aimed at emotionally supporting just ex-services. The stressors of public service work is unfortunately massively underestimated.

My advice to current students would be: just focus. It’s only 5 years of study, that will open up several opportunities later in life when you can decide what you really want to do. Every experience in school (especially the negatives) makes you a stronger person. You’ll be amazed by where you end up in 10, 20 or 30 years. I never thought I’d be where I am today. And I love it. Put the effort in and you will too!
