The Rock Cycle Project

On Thursday 13th June all of the students from Mr Wisbey’s Year 8 Science set brought in their homework about the rock cycle and the structure of the Earth. Some students made models showing the 4 layers of the Earth; some created volcanoes that erupted and others made cake to share with the class. As a challenge we were told to describe the temperature, composition and thickness of each layer as well as explain how Tectonic plates cause Earthquakes and Volcanoes. Examples of this homework included cutting up a section out of a foam ball used to represent the Earth, creating a volcano from papier-mâché with lava running down it or producing a booklet about our Earth. This project was a way to consolidate their understanding of the topic as well as develop their knowledge, being creative and have fun whilst doing it.
