I am writing to you to inform you that next week there will be a number of changes to the school site, commencing on Thursday 3rd October and lasting until September 2020.
No access to school site to vehicles for pick up and drop off
The southern half of the existing car park will be fenced off and our Contractors, Neilcott Construction Ltd, will start their work to build the extension at the front of the school. A new car park will open at the Southern end of the school site which is for staff only and does not contain a designated safe drop off area for the school. When the building work has finished next Summer, the final phase of the expansion project work includes changes to our existing car park layout to allow for safe circulation when vehicles enter the school site.
To ensure the safety of everyone on the school site, parents must not drive onto the school site to drop off their children at the start of the school day or to pick them up at the end of the school day from Thursday 3rd October 2019 until the building works are completed in September 2020. There are no designated safe places for drop off and pick up during this time period and there will be signs at the entrance to the school stating that parents must not enter the school site in their vehicles; additionally parents are advised that staff may approach anyone who does not follow this request and direct them to leave the school site immediately.
I would like to thank all those parents who have already found alternatives to using the school site for drop off and pick up and would like to say how delighted I am to see so many more of our students this year choosing to travel to school in an active way by walking or cycling wherever possible.
Visitor Reception is moving
The main entrance courtyard to the school will be blocked and our Visitors Reception will be temporarily moving to the Broadside entrance at the North end of the school building whilst the new building work is undertaken. In September 2020, we will have a large secure Visitor Reception area within the new building which will be more comfortable and welcoming for all visitors to our school.
Student Arrival at School is changing/ before and after school duty changes
As the main entrance courtyard to the school will be blocked and students will no longer be able to enter or leave the school through the automatic double glass doors at the front of the school building. Instead, students will need to enter and leave the school site at the beginning and end of the day through the gates at the Northern end of the site or through the gates at the Southern end of the site.
Thank you for your support in managing this exciting but logistically challenging situation! I am confident it will all be well worth the pain of the disruption this year as I look forward to having our fantastic new facilities to make their learning experience here even better for your children next September.
