School closure to most pupils from Monday 23rd March

We have now been instructed by the Government to close the school to almost all children starting on Monday 23rd March, until further notice.

As advised by the Government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, emergency services, school staff, delivery workers, supermarket and food supply chain workers) and children with certain needs. All other children will need to stay at home and we will be setting work for them to complete at home each day.

So that we can plan ahead for the provision of education for all children, those at home and those still needing to come to school, please would all parents complete the survey below as soon as possible today using this link:

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone.

What we’ll continue doing while your child is at home

It is important for all students to maintain a structured day and to continue with their learning. At this stage we do not know how long schools will need to remain closed. We would expect all students to complete all of the lessons set by their teachers each day.

To help make this as easy as possible for both students and parents to access we will set all work using Show My Homework. If students need to use other software such as Google Classroom or sites such as Hegarty Maths this will be explained to them in the instructions their teachers will provide on Show My Homework.

Teachers will try and set a range of tasks and some of these will be assessed. When students are required to do this they can submit work to their teachers through Show My Homework or Google Classrooms as directed in the instructions. Teachers will then be able to assess the work and feedback to students.

Students will have work set for every lesson they have during the school day. We will as far as possible set work at times when the lesson is scheduled. To manage staff workload and allow students time away from a PC screen we will ensure that:

  • All Years 7 and 8 classes have at least 45 mins of work per lesson to complete.
  • All Years 9 and 10 classes have an hour of work per lesson

If you or your child have issues accessing Show My Homework, or if you need to make contact regarding the work please email [email protected]

What about Year 11 exams?

The Government has announced that no further GCSE exams or assessments will take place. We await further details about what this means for our Year 11 students, which we will of course communicate with you as soon as we know.

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this ever-changing situation. I do understand that this latest news will have a significant impact on you and your family and that it is far from ideal and I will continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

Thank you again for your continued support during these unprecedented times.
