Asymptomatic mass testing of students on returning to school on W/B 8th March

Dear Parents,

You will have received the letter from the Headteacher dated 25th February about our plans to return to on-site learning starting on Tuesday 9th March with the offer of 3 COVID-19 tests at school, each 3 to 5 days apart, before providing them with self-testing kits for the week beginning Monday 22nd March.

Asymptomatic testing is an important tool for helping to break the chains of transmission of the virus. Since January 2021, we have successfully been administering COVID-19 tests at our ‘on-site’ Asymptomatic Test Centre. School staff and up to 150 students (who are currently attending our Key Worker School) have been tested twice weekly for 7 weeks. Currently we have over 90% of the Key Worker School students completing two tests weekly.

It is not unusual for students to feel nervous if they have not taken a test before. To help reassure them we have prepared the below page to further help them understand what the process will be and what is expected of them.

To learn more about how the testing works, see the link below.

COVID-19 Lateral Flow Testing • Admiral Lord Nelson School (

After the initial experience of testing our Key Worker students very quickly became used to the process and has become their ‘new normal’ over the last 7 weeks

The tests are not compulsory and will require your consent, but we strongly encourage everyone to participate to help keep our entire school community as safe as possible. Up to one third of people who have coronavirus experience no symptoms. The more students who engage in the testing means that it is less likely your child will bring the virus home with them. These tests will work alongside the other protective measures that we have had in place at Admiral Lord Nelson School since September 2020.

We require all parents to complete the following Google Form as soon as possible, but no later than Midday on Wednesday 3rd March.

Please complete the form to confirm whether consent is being given for their child to be tested or otherwise and also includes those parents whose child(ren) have been attending Key Worker School during lockdown. If you have more than one child at Admiral Lord Nelson School, please complete a separate return for each child.

You MUST fill out the form whether you are giving consent or not, letting us know your choice.

I am sure you will agree this is another tool that can really help contribute to lowering transmission risks.

Your sincerely,

Matthew Hutton
