Leadership Changes at Salterns Academy Trust Schools

Our founding CEO, Steven Labedz, retired in December after a long and successful career in education and since then we have both been jointly fulfilling the role of CEO to ensure stability for our two schools, and to guide the future development of our Trust together. This change of leadership has provided a timely opportunity for us to reflect on the direction of our Trust over the next three years and beyond.

Salterns Academy Trust is in a strong position educationally and financially. Both schools are popular and growing in numbers year on year and have a strong and growing reputation locally, regionally and nationally. Most importantly, our two schools provide high quality education for young people in the city and we are in a good position to build on this as we explore growth opportunities for our Trust in the coming years.

The high-quality leadership of our schools has been recognised by the large and influential multi-academy trust, GLF Schools, who have approached us to request a two-year secondment opportunity for Claire Copeland. This secondment would be as Executive Headteacher of Meridian School in Croydon for two days a week, supporting their senior leadership team to rapidly improve the school. We are very excited about this opportunity and the benefits it will bring to each of our schools and to our Trust.

We will both remain as Executive Headteachers of our respective schools, but from September, Nys Hardingham will become the CEO of Salterns Academy Trust. To ensure that day to day leadership of each of our Salterns Trust schools strengthens further, Gemma Pearse will step up to a Head of School role at Trafalgar School and Chris Doherty will fulfil a similar role at Admiral Lord Nelson School.

Although our leadership responsibilities are growing, please be assured we will stay passionate about and fully focussed on the delivery of excellent educational experiences and outcomes for all our students. We firmly believe these new leadership opportunities will only strengthen your child’s experiences at their school and will enable us to enhance our reputation as a Trust nationally. We remain totally committed to our Trust aims: to provide truly outstanding education that improves life chances and opportunities for the children of Portsmouth.

Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this new phase of leadership of our Trust schools.
