ALNS Response to increasing positive cases of COVID-19 – Letter to Parents (13.10.2021)

As we made you aware on Monday 11th October, we monitor daily the number of positive Covid-19 cases across the school community. We are witnessing a daily rise in positive cases and having taken advice from the Local Health Protection Team we will bring in additional, temporary control measures to combat this rise in cases.

We are not on our own and many other schools nationally and locally are witnessing similarly high levels of positive cases and are in the process of taking, or have already taken, similar measures.

We are really pleased that hundreds of students received their vaccination yesterday, but it will take several weeks for the additional protection this offers to be effective.

From Thursday 14th October we will be reintroducing the following control measures and they will be in in place at least until half term. At this point we will review the situation and make a decision on our return in November.

  1. Face coverings must be worn in indoor communal areas e.g., the mall, corridors, canteen (other than for those exempt) – Spare face coverings will be available from reception.
  2. Sanitising hands will take place at the following points in the school day:
    • on arrival to school at school gates;
    • on arrival to lesson 2
    • on arrival to tutor time
    • on arrival to lesson 3
    • on arrival to lesson 4
    • on arrival to lesson 5
  3. Movement around the school at transition times must take place externally as much as possible and students will be encouraged to spend breaktimes outside in the fresh air when the weather allows.

To control infection levels, we ask all our students to continue to use the Lateral Flow Tests every 3-5 days. If you have run out, your child can collect some more from their tutor or school reception. Your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.

If your child develops COVID19 symptoms, please let the school know. Your child should not come into school, and they should get tested as soon as possible by booking a test on-line or by calling 119. Further information is available at:
