Proposal to change the timings of the start and end of the school day.

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you of some proposed changes to the structure of the school day here at Admiral Lord Nelson School.

They are:
• The school day for students will start at 8:40am, rather than 8:25am
• The school day for students will end at 3pm, rather than 2:45pm
• The time gained in the morning each day will be used for staff meetings and to support school improvement plans

Should the changes be approved, they will come into force from 1st September 2022
I believe that these changes will be beneficial to the school community and will have a positive effect on your child’s education. They are designed to improve the quality and regularity of the time that staff can spend together so they can plan and deliver the best possible curriculum for our students. This is especially important as all our staff are tutors and are fully involved in delivering our Personal Development Curriculum, so we need to create regular time each week when the teachers and support staff can work together during their working day when the children are not on site so that we can offer the very best possible support to all of your children.

I appreciate that these changes may affect you, in terms of childcare or working arrangements, and in terms of your child’s education. For this reason, I would like to invite you to give your feedback by sending your written responses to [email protected] by Wednesday 29th June.
We will release the results of the consultation and the outcome we have decided upon by Friday 1st July.

Yours sincerely,
Nys Hardingham
Executive Headteacher
