Portsmouth Sports Awards Evening

On 5th June,  we took a group of ALNS students to the Portsmouth Sports Awards evening.  It was a great evening of sporting celebration where many of our students were recognised for their sporting success.  These awards are very prestigious as our students have been recognised for their efforts from the Portsmouth School partnership.

Awards won by students as follows:

Sports Leader of the Year – Jess Pay – Jess has completed the Sports Leaders Level 1 course but went above and beyond being one of the students who gained the silver award for over 100+hours of sports leadership in the school and community.  She is an exceptional leader who has such a brilliant manner with the students she teaches, she should be really proud of herself for being such a fantastic role model.

Outstanding commitment in sport – Faye EndeanFaye has been selected for the U15 girls England Basketball team.  She has recently been away playing international games in a preparation tournament to get ready for a major international tournament in Copenhagen.  She is an outstanding basketball player who has great future potential to represent England at senior women’s level.  Fay was actually unable to collect her award due to being away playing Basketball in Poland!

Young Ambassador of the Year – Jess Needham –This is the second year running Jess has won this award!! Jess is a true representative of what an outstanding sports ambassador should be.  She not only helps to assist in the leading and running of sports clubs and leadership events but she goes out of her way to help others in her own time.  She has found her own work placement assisting with sports at The Mary Rose Academy and she actively searched out a Primary School where she could help lead their Netball club.

Young Sports official of the Year – Tristan BarnesTristan is another great role model for our students at Admiral.  Not only does he officiate our Hockey matches but he also solely runs the school Hockey team.  He plans the sessions, coaches the team then is always available to referee the games.  He was also in charge of the primary Hockey tournaments hosted here at ALNS.  He has a lovely manner about him which enables him to control the game earning huge respect from everyone around him.

Extra – Curricular award – Lily Daniells and Lily Waites – These two girls have been brilliant in PE this year.  They have regularly attended various clubs and sports teams throughout the year.  They are both full of enthusiasm and energy and are an absolute pleasure to teach.

School Sports Team of the Year – ALNS boys Year 8 Football team. – The ALNS year 8 boys Football team have had a fantastic season.  They have played some top level football which resulted in them being our first ever ALNS team to make it to the Hampshire Cup final at Fratton Park.

Most improved individual – Uri Quadros – Uri has been great in PE since joining the school.  She has really improved in her confidence and it has been great to see her at many of our summer sports clubs.  We know she will continue with her enthusiasm and efforts into next year.  We love having her as part of our ALNS team!

Most improved team of year – ALNS girls Year 8 Football team – The ALNS year 7 & 8 girls team have been outstanding this year.  They have come together as a team and really developed into an incredibly strong side.  They finished the season winning the Portsmouth area tournament and also winning the league.  This is the first time one of our girl’s teams has been so strong.  They also won a silver medal at the Hampshire Youth Games!
