Salary: Band 4 £15,643 - £16,461 (£23,152-£24,362 full time equivalent)

Hours: 25 hours per week,

Monday – Friday (07.00am – 12.15pm with a 15 minute unpaid break)

52 weeks per year on a rota basis

We require an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to work as part of the Premises Team on a permanent basis, to ensure that the school environment is safe and clean for all its users and maintained to a high standard.

Duties to include:

  • Unlock the school each morning undertaking security and safety checks.
  • Keep records relating to maintenance and security.
  • Perform duties in line with health and safety and COSHH regulations, taking action where hazards are identified and reporting serious hazards to line manager immediately.
  • Undertake general portage duties including moving furniture and equipment within the school as required.
  • Undertake minor repairs and maintenance of the buildings and site.
  • Operate heating and alarm systems.
  • Keep the school premises clean and in good order, with additional cleaning as required.
  • Take monthly water temperatures re legionella prevention.
  • Keep the school grounds in good order.

As key holder you may be contacted to provide access to the school in the event of an emergency.

You will be responsible for maintenance, operation of fire systems and provide key holder responsibilities. Security and facilities management services on the school's site and premises. Responsible for ensuring a clean and hygienic school, general maintenance, painting, ensuring tidiness of the school grounds, general DIY. Carrying out Health and Safety inspections and Risk Assessments and any general repairs.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure that all duties undertaken are carried out in accordance with Health & Safety Legislation, requirements and best practice.
  • Ensure statutory checks are undertaken and logbooks are completed, notifying the Building and Community Manager of any concerns.
  • Adhere to all School Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain documentary records of all work requests in support of regulatory requirements.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training as identified to be relevant to the role, whether organisational or of a statutory nature.
  • To carry out duties in a manner which minimises the incidents and accidents within the Department, particularly promoting a safe working environment.

General Maintenance of the Building, Services and Equipment:

  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of premises, including buildings, fixtures, fittings and furniture especially in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Delivery of the Schools’ internal and external painting and decorating as required.
  • Escort, assist, monitor and work with (as required) contractors working for the Schools.
  • The operation of the heating plant on a daily basis so that the required temperatures are maintained in the School premises and an adequate supply of hot water is available.
  • All areas of the Schools are free from litter.
  • All litter bins outside the School buildings are emptied frequently.
  • Paths and driveways, car parks and play areas to be swept and kept clean and tidy.
  • Undertake all other duties as required by the Building and Community Manager or other senior member of staff.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of site maintenance and good practices in building services (heating, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical and electrical awareness).
  • Ability to plan and prioritise duties.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to acquire further appropriate training and skills.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Be computer literate and have a good understanding of MS Office software.
  • Full UK Driving Licence – to undertake school banking weekly.

Design Technician

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who wishes to work within the Design department within a school. Training will be given for all aspects of the role, however, experience in one or more of the Design areas would be favourable. This role is varied and will suit someone who likes a challenge where no two days are the same.

This role is for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, is courteous and well-mannered and an articulate team player. You should have the ability to communicate professionally to all both orally and in writing. You should have good organisational, planning and follow through skills and have strong computer skills. You must have the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentially.

All applicants must be qualified to GCSE A*-C or equivalent in at least English and Maths.

Key Purposes

  • To support the learning of students in Art, Food, 3D Design, Photography and Textiles by providing the technical advice and support in the practical and technical aspects of the Design curriculum by preparing, providing, maintaining, organising and managing resources for safe and secure practices. 
  • To work within the classroom with students as directed by the teacher supporting safe and sensible behaviour during practical tasks.  Demonstrate practical skills to students and support them when they use these skills in the classrooms across the Department.
  • To be able to prioritise own work and be versatile in working across all areas of the Design Department.
  • Improving the learning environment of the school in completing construction commissions.

Accountabilities

Design Department:

The following duties relate across the Design Faculty and will be required to be carried out when assisting in any of the following areas: 3D Design, Photography, Textiles, Food Technology and Art.

  • Set up demonstration equipment, prepare and construct materials/equipment, physical demonstration/operation of equipment for members of staff when this requires the application of acquired skills within the Design Department.
  • Assist in the setting up of resources prior to lessons including the preparation of materials and related equipment used.
  • Assist with the learning of students within the Design department, by demonstrating practical skills when required.
  • Demonstrate the correct and safe use of equipment for students and staff providing continuous support and advice on safety during practical work.
  • Prepare the project materials, including Year 11 Final Projects, as prescribed by the Design Department teaching staff via authorised cutting lists.
  • Carry out routine duties to ensure the efficiency of the department:
    • Top up consumables, tapes, paper, graphics equipment, paints, clay, off-cuts etc as required.
    • Ensure each room is supplied with hand towels.
  • In accordance with Health and Safety regulations, maintain and take care of the stock and equipment, including periodic visual and/or physical safety checks:
    • Routine day to day maintenance of machinery and equipment
    • Routine visual checks of equipment to include power leads, safety guards, furniture, safety goggles, cookers, sewing machines and art equipment
    • Organise and maintain the orderly and safe storage of consumable materials in the Department’s stores.
    • Organise the annual or periodic servicing of machines and equipment and maintain in working
    • Check the condition of tables, work benches and vices
  • Order materials associated with the Design Department and maintain an order book ensuring best value for the school, including local shopping and the craft bank.  This will include food shopping.
  • Maintain an order book that includes copies of all orders and running totals of money spent.
  • Control and safely store hazardous substances, specialised solutions and chemicals ensuring they are kept securely locked and their use is controlled solely by the Design Department.
  • Have an active role in arranging/changing displays in the classroom as directed by the Curriculum Leader: Design.
  • Perform administrative duties within the department including the collection of monies and photocopying.

Duties specific to Food Technology:

  • Support the students during their lessons including working with small groups.
  • Undertake to keep all resources, equipment, shelves and cupboards (inside and out) clean, including the cleaning, microwaves, fridges and freezers.
  • Ensure the linen (tea towels and aprons) is washed on a daily basis and repaired if necessary.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing and clearing away materials and equipment for lessons.
  • Assisting in Health and Safety standards.
  • Contribute to the planning, development and organisation of systems and procedures.
  • Take photographs for evidence of learning and printing and uploading online.

Duties specific to Art:

  • Support the students during their lessons including working with small groups.
  • Recycle and organise clay, keeping the clay area safe
  • Load and unload the Kiln.
  • Refill and clean paints.

Accountabilities within Whole School:

  • To promote restorative practice at every opportunity, in meetings and communications, with parents, students and colleagues, to maintain the strong, inclusive ethos of the school.
  • To participate in professional learning (including INSET and twilight INSET sessions) and own appraisal meetings, contributing to the identification of own professional development needs and attend relevant meetings.
  • To participate professionally in own line management meetings, appraisal review meetings and team meetings.
  • To actively use Restorative Approaches to maintain and build relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • To participate in the Personal Development curriculum for our students, leading and support events as required.
  • To be a co-tutor
  • To invigilate public and internal examinations or provide support for students with exam access arrangements when necessary.
  • To promote students wellbeing by undertaking supervision of students during breaktimes as timetabled.
  • To support in the supervision of student transitions, between lessons, during the school day under the direction of Line Manager/Senior Leader.
  • To establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • To take responsibility for your own wellbeing.
  • At the discretion of the Headteacher, to undertake other activities from time to time agreed to be consistent with the nature of the role.
