I have been the NEU rep for the school for a number of years and am now an Advanced Skilled Rep, with further knowledge in a range of areas, from contract law to equality in the workplace. The NEU is the only union open to all staff, so I have recently completed my training to better understand the needs of support staff. I am Lead Teaching Assistant: Cover and Steward for UNISON, the largest trade union in the United Kingdom serving more than 1.3 million members. UNISON represents full and part-time staff who provide public services, although they may be employed in both the public and private sectors.
As a Steward, I represent my fellow members of UNISON by advocating for the member, trying to resolve issues and giving advice and guidance to those who need it. I can also communicate to both UNISON and their employers on their behalf to further the support that someone may need.
